Piece Information:
This design is a symbol of the relationship between beauty and death. Graphite is a medium I am most comfortable with, but I wanted to explore combining styles. I decided to create a graphite portrait of a woman in a realistic style with a soft feel, while overlaying the skull in black ink pen for a striking and clear feel. The linework was done in 'scribble drawing', to add to the feeling of energy and impact the skull has, and to widen the divide between the styles.
